OpenOffice.org 3 is the leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. A Free (and fully compatible) alternative to Microsoft Office.

Open Workbench (This comes highly recommended)
Open Workbench is an open source Windows-based desktop application that provides robust project scheduling and management functionality. A free alternative to Microsoft Project.

Firefox Web Browser (We use this all the time)
A fast and secure open-source alternative to Internet Explorer.

Thunderbird email client
A fast and secure email package that enables you to link up with your web email accounts.

AVG Anti-Virus (We use this all the time)
Free and highly regarded anti-virus software.

Linux Operating System (We use this)
If you want to go the whole hog and replace your Windows operating system then you could do no worse than using Linux.
Linux is a comprehensive operating system that has thousands of available applications for any task you could require from your desktop computer. You can even install Linux alongside Windows and still access your windows applications.
Warning Whilst Linux is very robust and powerful, you should ensure that you backup any data you want to keep if you're going to use it to replace Windows.

GIMP Graphics editor (We use this)
Fully functional image manipulation and editing software. A free alternative to PhotoShop.

Kompozer website authoring
A complete web authoring system that combines web file management and easy-to-use WYSIWYG web page editing.

Audacity (We use this regularly)
An easy-to-use sound recording and audio editing suite.

TUGZip
A free archiving and file compression utility. A fully featured free alternative to Winzip (TUGZip is much faster too).

A free alternative to Adobe Acrobat. Although Acrobat is also free, Foxit is much smaller and a heck of a lot faster.

Simple, easy to use application for managing personal and small business finances.

Sugar CRM (We've used this)
A comprehensive and powerful Client/Contact Relationships Management (CRM) software. Comes with just about everything you could need from a CRM system including sales process management. It runs on the web and can work behind your website and be fully integrated into it.
